GodSpeed Asa

Do you watch One Life To Live? Then you know Asa Buchanan. The godfather of the Buchanan Clan. Asa Buchanan, after nearly 3 decades of chaos, died in 2007. The show had a memorial celebration for him on their 40th anniversary last year (think about it, he was on the show since 1980, and the show just turned 40 last year) . It was touching when they brought back all of his older sons/nephews/nieces that had left the show over the last 10 years.

This weekend, the actor that fulfilled the role - Philip Carey - passed away. I didnt realize he was sick in real life, and that the illness compelled him to leave in the first place. I'm saddened by it.

"The tall, deep-voiced actor began playing Asa Buchanan, the strong-willed Buchanan family patriarch who could be ruthless in business and would do whatever he had to do to protect his family, in 1980.

Carey was diagnosed with lung cancer in early 2006, said Hogan. He took a leave of absence from "One Life to Live" to undergo treatment and returned to the show later that year.

Carey's tycoon character died in his sleep in an August 2007 episode but was brought back twice in video wills and appeared on the show's 40th anniversary episodes in July 2008; Carey's last appearance was on Dec. 29.

"One Life to Live" cast member Erika Slezak (Vicki) said she was "incredibly fond" of Carey." -
